Auf Flügeln des Gesanges (On Wings of Song) is a song for soprano (voice) and piano, written on a poem of Heinrich Heine from 1827. It appeared in many languages and various different (instrumental) settings. It was conducted by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (Hamburg, February 3rd 1809 - Leipzig, November 4th 1847), a German composer, conductor, organ- and pianist. Willy Hautvast arranged his composition for band, and later for clarinet - and saxophone quartet.
