Aufforderung Zum Tanz was originally composed in 1819 by Carl-Maria von Weber for solo piano but did not gain too much attention then. Later on the Paris Opera wanted to use the opera Der Freischütz by Von Weber, but that piece of music did not include a ballet. Since the French always expected a ballet at an opera, Aufforderung Zum Tanz was chosen to be included and arranged as such. However, at that point in time Von Weber had already died. Then Hector Berlioz was asked to make the arrangement and this version became the most popular. Berlioz himself wasn’t too enthusiastic about the piece, but it was a true showstopper for the audience. Willy Hautvast has made a beautiful arrangement of this wonderful waltz.
