Born4horn was composed for the occasion of the 2014 LIVA Brass Festival in Linz (Austria), at which the spotlight was put on the French horn. Born4horn was premiered at the opening concert of the festival by the Ried Symphonic Band, along with 120 horn players from music schools from Upper-Austria. (YouTube: SBO Ried – Born4Horn). The piece can be performed with three or four horns; the fourth horn part is conceived as a low voice in order to present the exceptionally wide range of the instrument. Born4horn is written in Fritz Neuböck’s fresh and innovating style, and is a fine new addition to the classical wind band repertoire for horn players. In Born4Horn the entire horn section comes to the fore! The piece can be performed with 3 or 4 horns; there are no horn parts in the accompaniment. The solo parts and band parts are written at a medium (Grade 3) level, so musicians who have 3-4 years of experience should be able to play this quite well. Born4Horn is a welcome addition to the repertoire for amateur horn players and had its world premiere in the Brucknerhaus in Linz (Austria) on May 21, 2014, performed by a total of 148 horn players! The recording of this premiere with SBO Ried can be found on YouTube.
