This piece of music was written in Rome, when I visited the eternal city during a study trip. The listener is standing at the base of the stairs of the Capitol and he is looking upwards, to imagine the historical picture. One hears imaginary fanfares and people are cheering at the armed forces that ascend the stairs. The slow part of this fanfare reflects the ceremony full of atmosphere at the emperor’s tribute. Towards the end of the piece, trumpets and horns are heard above everything to symbolise the joy of victory throughout the entire city.
