Within 1 business dayDuring the 1866 carnival, on the 6th of February to be exact, Johan Strauss played with his orchestra at the traditional Viennese prom. As was tradition back then, Strauss wrote a composition especially for this occasion and took this to the Viennese Hofburg. The piece was called "Damespende" with which a music critic once wrote: "this new polka Française of Strauss is especially lively". Since then, this polka has been a constant in the repertoire of the Strauss orchestra.
