Kobe Janssens

Kobe Janssens (born 2006) is a Belgian composer. He started his musical studies at the age of 8, where he studied percussion with Jan De Maeyer. His interest in music soon followed and he started at the “Young Band of Landen” under the direction of Quirrijn Jammaer. 2 years later, he also joined the “Harmonie van Landen”, “the Koninklijke Harmonie Sint-Cecilia Gingelom”, and the “Alumni Harmonieorkest Leuven”. Meanwhile, he continues his musical studies at the “Lemmens Institute” in Leuven, where he takes percussion lessons from Evert Van Eynde. Also at the music school, he expanded his knowledge, took additional percussion studies with Johan De Baedts and took more courses. These included band, pop combo, producing and songwriting. He now also receives composition lessons from Jan Van der Roost, and takes a number of other courses at the Lemmens Institute.

Kobe wrote his first composition at the age of 10, which was a five-part composition. He had been playing with the “Young Band of Landen” for some time, where his interest in band music began. He had finished his first two lessons in band and started composing for concert band. It was still not good, so he decided to delve into the band repertoire. At the age of 14, he got his first real release. Namely "Red Rock Canyon", for wind band. Also to his name are a few small percussion titles and some ensemble music.

His motivation is high and Kobe wants to grow into a well-known composer and musician. He hopes to amuse and delight people with his repertoire. He owes a lot to his conductors, and teachers who give him the opportunity to grow. As a beginning composer, he looks up to great and well-known people in band repertoire such as Benjamin Yeo, Thomas Doss, Kevin Houben, Rossano Galante, Bert Appermont, and Peter Graham. In 2021, he will officially become a composer at Tierolff.

Here is a list with works of Kobe that have been published by Tierolff.
