With this 1872 “opéra comique” / operetta, French composer Charles Lecocq (1832 - 1918) established his reputation in the field of light opera music /operetta, first in Brussels, then in Paris and later in England and Germany. Many of his works surpassed the operettas of such luminaries as Jacques Offenbach and Florimond Roger Hervé. Thus, in the history of operetta music, Lecocq occupies an important place. “La Fille De Madame Angot” has endured to this day and has earned a permanent place in the repertoire of operetta societies. Its music is generally regarded as extraordinarily charming. This is also well observed in the overture to this operetta: short in duration, but overwhelming in beauty.
