Within 1 business dayI got the idea for ‘Midnight Dreams’ while watching a documentary film about the German composer and bandleader Bert Kaempfert. The hit "Midnight Blues" is the basis of this composition and becomes recognizable through the rhythm, the meter (signature) and the chords of the andante. As I did not want to write a "hit," but rather a short solo concert piece for trumpet. The composition contains a virtuosic allegro and ends with a brief coda. The percussion is limited to timpani and a drum-set. However, the conductor is free to add other percussion instruments. The short rumba (measure 71 onwards) even asks for an extension of the percussion section. The soloist should play the introduction in a jazzy style, though he has to take care that all notes in the allegro are clearly audible.
