"Pater Noster" means "our father" in Latin, and refers to the typical prayer presented by Christ himself. This work is not composed from a religious perspective, but rather it is an expression of awe for the magnificent natural energy and power in ethnic "prayer". The source work is a clarinet octet commissioned by Tokai University TAKANAWADAI High School. After receiving numerous requests, I composed "Pater Noster II for Wind Ensemble" for chamber ensemble, playable by 15. This time, I revised it into the woodwind octet "Pater Noster III" for the recording of the Tohoku Fukushi University Wind Orchestra's CD "Parfait Paradise! - Ensemble Works of Satoshi Yagisawa", released by WAKO Records. I believe this accessible version offers further possibilities. For publication, optional parts for euphonium and tuba have been added. I understand the situation at many schools, and you are free to revise the instrumentation as needed. (Satoshi Yagisawa)
