Thomas Asanger

 

Thomas Asanger was born in 1988 in Linz and lives with his family in Perg (Upper Austria). Thomas Asanger studied conducting concert band at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz as well as bassoon, music education with a major in choral conducting and vocal pedagogy at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he also worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Musicology and Interpretation Research from 2014 to 2018. Since 2015 he is teacher for ensemble conducting wind band at the Upper Austrian Landesmusikschulwerk and since 2019 he is senior lecturer at the Institute for Music Pedagogy at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.

As a composer he has been publishing works for concert band for many years. His international breakthrough came in 2011 when one of his compositions was premiered at the renowned Midwest Clinic in Chicago. Since then his compositions have been performed internationally and recorded on CD by the world's leading concert bands. Many of them have also been nominated as compulsory pieces in band competitions home and and abroad. Since 2019, Thomas Asanger has been the Deputy Regional Kapellmeister of the Upper Austrian Wind Music Association.
