“Under the Willow Tree” is an enchanting orchestral composition that tells the story of a daydreamer who finds strength in nature under a majestic weeping willow tree. The composition begins with bleak cluster chords and unusual chord changes that create a melancholy mood. Optional singing wine glasses enhance the mood and give the piece a unique tonal texture. A short, concise motif appears several times and always ends in a cluster chord only to return later as part of a secondary melody. The passionate main melody sounds and is accompanied by descending lines that reflect the deep thoughts of the daydreamer. The repetition in C adds new instruments and the faster tempo symbolizes the wind blowing gently through the leaves of the weeping willow. A lovely melody in major provides a strong contrast to the preceding melancholy mood and brings light and hope to the music. After a gentle transition, the main melody returns in minor, accompanied by complex polyphonic countermelodies that enhance the passion. In the F section, the main melody is heard several times in inversion in a fugato section, reflecting the complexity of the daydreamer's feelings.

A transition, in which the main motif returns several times in extended form, leads to a majestic resurrection of the secondary theme in major in section B. Here the sun shines through the leaves and the daydreamer enjoys the peaceful and healing atmosphere under the tree. This section is meant to evoke positive emotions and emphasize the healing power of nature. A breeze increases the intensity of the music. The daydream ends abruptly with the cracking of the tree trunk by the wind. This is emphasized by “chopped” quarter notes. The main theme returns briefly in minor before surprisingly modulating to major. The composition ends positively with an uplifting chorale in which a solo clarinet floats above the main melody. Later, a solo flute joins and the daydreamer leaves the idyll under the weeping willow tree, invigorated by the power of nature.

“Under The Willowtree, The Healing Power of Nature” touches the listener with its skilful combination of passionate melodies and deeply melancholic accompaniments. Its polyphonic structure and dramatic shifts between minor and major, slow and fast tempos, and simple and complex textures create a musical experience that is both comforting and thought-provoking.
