Commissioned by the Tokai University Gyosei High School Wind Ensemble in 2011. The main theme is based on "Mein Jesu, Was fur Seelenweh" (BWV 487) by Bach. Originally a vocal piece, it was later arranged for string orchestra by Stokowski and has since become a renowned work performed by various instrumental ensembles.

The term "festive" in the title does not refer to a celebration but rather to the heavy and arduous path, the suffering, and the light that appears after overcoming such hardships. The music speaks to this philosophy of life, serving as an "anthem of encouragement" for young people. As you enjoy performing this concerto with companions who share both joys and sorrows, I hope it becomes a tribute to a bright future.
