Selections from the Operetta

Written for Tamagawa Academy and Kazuhiko Tsuchiya in 2004 and re-arranged for a small instrumentation in 2017. This consists of songs freely selected from the original work (acts 1–3), with as few changes and additions as possible to the harmony and counter-melodies, and the arrangement is in line with the image of the original. There is no use of the famous "Overture". I often am asked why "Thunder and Lightning" is included. It is customary for operettas to cut or add music depending on the production, and I did so based on precedence. The work is in three parts: fast (beginning), slow (from [J]), and fast (from [M]). While the tempo is fairly consistent up letter [J], work a gradual allargando to enter [J] naturally (for example, there is no rit. after [E]). Of course, agogics that follow the original work are effective, but be careful not to lose the sense of composition. For percussion instruments, except for the part [O] that imitates "Thunder and Lightning", there is a risk that harmony and band tone will be covered, especially if it is a small group, so please balance carefully.

This piece can be performed by as little as under 35 people.
