Sous 1 jour ouvrableCommissioned by the Sakuragaoka Junior and Senior High School Wind Band, "Les Cerisiers" is French for "cherry trees." I composed this piece by overlapping the gentle image of cherry blossoms that herald the arrival of spring with the name of Sakuragaoka Gakuen.
The descending melody beginning at rehearsal mark B unifies the entire piece, conveying the image of cherry blossoms fluttering down on a warm breeze. When performing, I hope you will keep this image in mind, emphasizing the soft phrasing of the 6/8 and 9/8 meters, the subtle agogic shifts, and the scenic changes created by the harmonic transitions.
