DESCRIPTION

The title "Perspective on Time" can perhaps be understood simply as "life events viewed from a window". Everyone has those treasured memories of their musical lives. Some recall their past while watching junior high school students play a concert; others might see themselves back in college as university students carry their instruments about. These moments make one think about what former peers are up to. This is especially true for those with children involved in music, as parents reflect on their own musical childhood. As I consider my youth while watching my child perform, I wonder how my parents saw me when I was a little musician.
This piece is written not only for junior high school students, but to also carry a message to my younger self. Having this message as the original idea for the work and the concept for the 1st melody, the music itself can be considered somewhat programmatic. However, keep in mind that the music does not necessary follow a specific story in a free form, but does strictly follow the sonata form.
