Ross Roy is the name of the monumental villa in Brisbane (Australia) where St. Peters Lutheran College was founded in 1945. Commissioned by the college orchestra Jacob de Haan composed this varied concert work full of metaphors. The structure and discipline of the school can be heard in the rhythmic movement in the bass register and percussion, accompanied by tone repetition. The next, martial theme symbolises the completion of the classes. A joking, humorous version of the main theme is not lacking: after all, at school there must also be time for cheerfulness. The characteristic closing theme ends in a festive apotheosis.
