"The Austrian Wind Music Youth awarded five commissions for the 5th Austrian Youth Wind Orchestra Competition, which will take place in Linz in October 2011. The commission for a work in the difficulty level DJ went to me and thus SCHMELZENDE RIESEN was created. The idea behind the title and the work is global warming, which also makes itself felt in Central Europe, not least through the retreat of the alpine glaciers. The work begins with a calm, majestic part that reflects the majesty of the glaciers. In the fast middle part the exciting journey with a sled dog team over the widths of the Arctic is described. The transition to the last part is abrupt. The extent of the climate change suddenly becomes apparent. This is followed by a kind of "lamentation song" of the glaciers, which only at the end of the work, with the hope of a better future by future generations, takes on a more optimistic tone. fades away."
