Sous 1 jour ouvrableThe English folk song "Home! Sweet Home!" was composed by Henry Bishop in 1823. It was included in a Japanese collection of songs in Meiji era (1868-1912) and became especially famous for appearing in the Ghibli animated movie "Grave of the Fireflies."
This Small Variations on Home! Sweet Home! consists of theme, three variations, and five part finale. How to present each part with independent musicality is the challenge of the piece.
The grade is 2.5 by US standards. It is my great pleasure to introduce the style of "variations" through this work and to give young musicians the motivation to further consider famous creations like "Fantasy Variations on a Theme by Niccolo Paganini" and "Variations on a Korean Folk Song".
This work, which was premiered by the Saitama Municipal Nanasato Elementary School brass band in February 2015, was revised to flexible instrumentation by request of Brain Music.
