Sous 1 jour ouvrableThe piece "Sun Salutation" was commissioned in 2022 by Takarazuka Wind Orchestra under the musical direction of Mr. Hideyuki Watanabe. It is a sibling piece to "Hands of Prayer" (2017). While the previous work centered on Gregorian chants, delving into profound religious beliefs and the fusion with vocal music, "Sun Salutation" is a wind orchestra piece with original motifs. The composition emphasizes the universal theme of "prayer" alongside the potent expressions of vitality and hope, and the creation of a symphonic sound.
The years after the previous work in 2017 felt tumultuous, marked by the COVID-19 pandemic and international conflicts. My views on music and society have evolved, though my intent to convey the journey from darkness to light, from anguish to joy through performance remains unchanged.
Just as the sun sets in the western sea only to rise again from the east, we must awaken and continue to wait with hope and prayer to live strongly. As a composer, it would be my pleasure if this piece and the message it carries serves many people.
