To The Sacred Hill

To the Sacred Hill was commissioned by Tama University Hijirigaoka Jr./Sr. High School in 2017. The title is inspired by the place name "hijirigaoka". Instrumentation is based upon two-part brass voicings with optional piano. The piece consists of beautiful melodic lines and chant-like harmonies inspired by the title. After the introductory fantasia by solo flute, the main theme appears in the allegro section, which evolves in various ways. The ¾-time theme was inspired by chant, so please perform it with a lyrical quality.

This piece can be performed with as liitle as under 35 people.
