Victory

For Jan de Haan, the football world championships were a source of inspiration for writing this work. As is customary at major sporting events, they play for victory - or Victory. For weeks, football fans all over the world are glued to the tube so that they don't have to miss anything of the spectacle. Neighbouring countries living in friendship almost become enemies when they play against each other. Yet this is a work with a non-programmatic structure. After the introduction, in which the intervals quarter and fifth are conspicuously present, follows a marsa-like section, interrupted by a modest middle section. The lyrical main theme, played by the alto saxophone, bears a strong resemblance to the introduction.
