Program Notes:
This is a 2022 commemorative work for the 70th anniversary of Kanazawa Gakuin University High School, commissioned by their wind orchestra. At the time of the school's founding, the clear, pure sound of the campus bells could be heard throughout the town, leading to the area being called "Seishodai" (meaning "Hill of Clear Bells"). In connection with this, the band director, Mr. Tadanao Saito, requested that the melody of Westminster chimes be incorporated into the piece.
As the chimes resonate, students are spending irreplaceable time through their many encounters. I composed with images of the lush green trees of Seishodai, the youthful energy of high school students, and the sparkle of school life - capturing the spirit of a "vibrant youth." As this is a commemorative piece, I crafted the music with a sense of celebration, aiming for a bright and brilliant tone.
Through this piece, I convey a heartfelt wish for the radiance of youth to sparkle in all who cherish wind music.
(Masanori Taruya)
Performance Notes:
If 1st trumpet plays the lower octave at sections marked (*), 2nd and 3rd trumpets should also play in the range indicated by cue notes. WISHES!
